The usually serene Murehwa district vibrated with excitement as a helicopter carrying Presidential Special Adviser to UAE, Dr Paul Tungwarara, touched down, marking a historic occasion for local war veterans.
In a landmark event, thousands war veterans in Murehwa witnessed the launch of a comprehensive housing scheme, a borehole drilling project, and the establishment of a dedicated War Veterans Fund at Hurungwe Primary School.
These initiatives, spearheaded by the government, aimed at improving the livelihoods of those who fought for Zimbabwe’s independence.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Tungwarara emphasised the government’s commitment to honoring the sacrifices made by war veterans.
“Our heroes deserve dignity, and these projects are a testament to the nation’s gratitude for their service,” he said.
The housing scheme will provide modern homes to war veterans and their families, ensuring stable living conditions.
Additionally, the borehole drilling initiative is set to improve access to clean water, benefiting not just the war veterans but the surrounding communities as well.
A key highlight of the event was the unveiling of the War Veterans Fund, which will offer financial support, healthcare benefits, and entrepreneurial opportunities for former freedom fighters.
Local war veteran representative Cde James Mutizwa expressed gratitude, saying, “For years, we have struggled, but today marks the beginning of a new chapter for us and our families.”
The event, attended by government officials, traditional leaders, and community members, underscored the importance of recognizing and supporting those who played a crucial role in Zimbabwe’s liberation.
With these developments, the war veterans of Murewa can now look forward to a brighter and more secure future.
