The government has praised Zimbabwean women for their vital contributions to national development through their hard work and socio-economic activities.

Speaking at the belated International Women’s Day commemorations hosted by the Ministry of Public Service, Labour, and Social Welfare, Deputy Minister Mercy Dinha reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing support for women across the country.

“We recognise the invaluable contributions women make to our society, our economy, and our families. Women are the backbone of our communities, and their unwavering dedication to creating positive change is something to be celebrated,” Dinha said.

She acknowledged the challenges women continue to face in the workplace and emphasised the need for a more inclusive and supportive environment.

“As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we also acknowledge the challenges women face in the workplace. We recognize the importance of creating a supportive and inclusive environment that empowers women to thrive,” she added.

Dinha also called on women to unite in overcoming barriers to equality.

“As we celebrate International Women’s Day, let us recommit ourselves to creating a world where women are valued, respected, and empowered. Let us work together to break down barriers, challenge biases, and promote equality,” she said.

International Women’s Day, observed annually on March 8, honours the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women while advocating for gender equality.

The event organised by the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, brought together women from various parastatals under its purview including the National Social Security Authority (NSSA), National Building Society (NBS), Zimbabwe Institute of Public Administration and Management (ZiPAM), Tripartite Negotiating Forum (TNF), Public Service Commission (PSC), and Premier Service Medical Aid Society (PSMAS).
